After hacking my iPhone a couple of months ago, it's only seen use as a backup cell phone. I love my Blackberry Pearl. I see the Pearl as a tool, and the iPhone as a toy. Given that I love playing with my toys, whenever I'd practice using my iPhone full time, I'd end up playing with it more then I'd work.

I'd thought about purchasing another line through T-Mobile for the iPhone, so I wouldn't need to swap SIM cards, but I could never find a reason to justify the additional expense. Last week, I stumbled across that justification. :-)

iPhone Yellow Triangle of DeathI set out to upgrade my iPhone software yesterday. After buying the phone, I followed Alex's instructions for cancelling my AT&T service, so now it's an iPod Touch with a SIM card slot. I've been using the iPhone as a testing platform. I have not performed any of the hacks against it.

So, I thought the upgrade would be a breeze. I was wrong.

After connecting my phone to iTunes on Windows XP, iTunes prompted me to upgrade. It downloaded the new software and applied it to my phone. Somewhere in the process (I wasn't really paying attention), I received the infamous yellow triangle of death. The instructions on how to fix this are after the jump.

Had a interesting experience this morning. I've yet to write up my full iPhone experience, but here's a early sneak peek.

I was working to get my iPhone connected to my home Wifi network. I have a old-skool Linksys WRT54G router running the DD-WRT firmware. I do that because I'm a linux geek and I like to have absolute control of my router. I run my wireless security under a WPA Pre-Shared Key, without broadcasting my SSID. Granted, I'm the only person on my block who runs wireless (yeah, I checked), but I like being secure.

iPhone Prediction

After my last iPhone post, I couldn't help but take up Seth Godin on his request for iPhone predictions.

I predict the iPhone will sell exceedingly well and spawn a number of new knockoffs by other handset companies. In 5 years, we won't be able to imagine a world without the (full) internet in the palm of our hands.

What are your predictions?

I don't consider myself a huge Apple Fanboy, but I am looking forward to this. I just received an email teaser about the iPhone. Let the hype begin. Now I just need to figure out how to break the news to my current phone. :-)
